The publication design a&o Kunsthalle Leipzig Edition 01 was developed by CTP – Conversation Taking Place, an independent design studio based in Berlin. This edition introduced the journal published by a&o Kunsthalle Leipzig, setting a tone of urgency, openness, and material care.
Edition 01 explored rupture, transparency, and shared responsibility. Our editorial identity was shaped through conversation—with the editors, the contributors, and the materials themselves.
The layout shifts in density, moving between intense, text-heavy spreads and spacious, reflective moments. Typography oscillates between order and disruption, echoing the emotional weight of the content.
Images were placed with intention, offering interruption rather than illustration. This rhythm allowed the publication to breathe while holding friction and flow together.
Designing this publication was a material process. Layouts were tested on paper, not just screens. We considered tactility as part of the reading experience—from paper texture to binding detail.
Margins, breaks, and pacing were treated as structural elements that carried the tone of the content. The result is a book that reads as a conversation in motion.
This approach reflects how we work at CTP. We don’t impose style—we build systems that listen to the voice of each project.
If you're developing an editorial project and seeking book design for cultural institutions, CTP offers a collaborative, research-driven method. We translate editorial ideas into visual systems that hold nuance and depth.
As an independent design studio in Berlin, we specialize in publication design, visual identity, and long-term thinking for artists, curators, and collectives.
