Art Basel Invitation, Galerie Thomas Schulte
The invitation design reinterprets an infamous design icon created by Curt Teich’s bold type style and saturated visuals well known in the Americas. This antique but bold idea of sightseeing was turned alive once more for special guests of the Art Basel.

The Art Basel Invitation Design was created by CTP – Conversation Taking Place, an independent design studio based in Berlin, for Galerie Thomas Schulte. The project draws inspiration from vintage greeting and souvenir postcards, reflecting the fair’s prestige and nostalgic charm.
We began by researching Curt Teich postcards—the iconic “Greetings from…” style produced between 1930 and 1950. The result is a bold, typographic system: oversized letters, bright colors, and visual humor. This Art Basel Invitation Design blends historical referencing with contemporary wit.
Layouts mimic the postcard structure: a prominent “Greetings from Art Basel” headline paired with large-format imagery. The typographic voice is playful yet authoritative, suggesting both celebration and formality.
The invitation works as a standalone piece and a digital announcement. We designed it to feel like an object—a collectible item you might want to hold or save. The visual language honors the gallery’s tone and adds a touch of surprise.
We created both print-ready files and digital formats. The design adapts to mailers, posters, e-invitations, and social media assets—all rooted in the same typographic logic.
Working closely with Galerie Thomas Schulte, we refined the invitation through iterative proofs and material testing. Paper options, ink saturation, and fold structure were all part of the concept.
The Art Basel Invitation Design creates a narrative for the gallery’s participation—past, present, and future. It functions as both cultural artifact and promotional tool.
If you're seeking an invitation design for art events, CTP offers a thoughtful balance of context, visual culture, and storytelling. We design identity systems that enhance attendance, presence, and memory.
As an independent design studio in Berlin, we partner with galleries, museums, and collectives to create visual materials that matter.

For Galerie Thomas Schulte, we designed a special invitation for an upcoming event at Art Basel. Heavily inspired by research into popular greeting cards highlighting special characteristics, our blueprints originated from Curt Teich's designs of an estimated 150,000 different ‘Greetings from...’ cards, created during their peak popularity between 1930 and 1950.
