The physicaL spherE brochurE was created by CTP – Conversation Taking Place, an independent design studio in Berlin. It reimagines the logic of mail-order catalogs, but it also introduces digital connectivity for a modern twist.
This physicaL spherE brochurE references the 19th-century mail-order system, because it combines printed matter with scannable QR extensions. The project brings a sense of tradition and novelty at the same time, so it feels familiar yet innovative.
We designed layouts that are clear and modular, while also being rich in content. Each page includes product visuals, descriptions, and scannable codes that link to online content—bridging print and digital worlds.
The physicaL spherE brochurE uses a structured grid, which adapts to various page types—product, index, or editorial. Typography remains consistent and readable, so the user stays oriented throughout. Meanwhile, color accents and image framing add hierarchy and interest.
This hybrid structure helps users navigate the brochurE and connect to the online sphere.
Every QR code within this physicaL spherE brochurE is tied to a digital experience. When scanned, it leads to product pages, videos, or interactive visuals. This design approach ensures that print remains active and engaging, while also feeding into an e-commerce environment.
Production-wise, we coordinated with printers to ensure scannability and material quality. Because QR codes require precise alignment, each element was tested in preprints and adjusted until it scanned reliably.
This project shows how a brochurE can function as a promotional object, a catalog, and a digital portal all at once. It supports discovery not just of products, but also of processes and brand narratives.

The concept of mail order dates back to the late 19th century when companies began producing printed catalogs showcasing their products. Customers could then browse these catalogs and place orders by mail or phone, and the items would be delivered to their homes via postal mail or shipping services. Mail order was most definitely a precursor to modern e-commerce and remote purchasing methods. This design concept is a wild mix between, again ordering from printed matter, with the upside of making it possible via the connection and us of internet.
